Searching in/for Serial Literature

  • MetaLib
  • Theological Journals Search is a Google Co-Op search of over 50 full-text theological journals.
  • Southern Seminary / Boyce Library Databases allows access to over 60 databases, most of which are available in full text using the "SFX" function. See SFX.
  • Southern Seminary / Boyce LIbrary E-Journals arranged by category or subject.
  • Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles, from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and other scholarly organizations. Often allows citation searches and full-text viewing.
  • Windows Live Academic is a beta version answer to Google Scholar. It indexes mostly scientific journals, but a few humanities references turn up frequently. Nice tool for cross-disciplinary searching.
  • FindArticles.com is powered by LookSmart and covers over 10,000,000 articles across an entire spectrum of disciplines and viewpoints.
  • FreeFullText.com provides direct links to over 7000 scholarly periodicals which allow some or all of their online content to be viewed by ANYONE with Internet access for free (though some may require free registration). The issue(s) which are available for free are indicated for each title on the alphabetical periodical lists. The design of this site is optimized for users seeking specific articles for which they already have the citation. If some of the articles you need are not available for free online, you may obtain them for a fee through a document delivery service, such as Pinpoint Documents.
  • The Online Books Page: Serials is sponsored and compiled by the University of Pennsylvania and offers links to freely accessible archives of serials (such as magazines, journals, newspapers, and other periodicals).

Searching In/For Books

Resources for Searching the Content of Books:

  • A9/Amazon A separately branded and operated subsidiary of Amazon, A9 searches the "content" of books. Better than Google Books for newer books. Also adds an additional 1-2% discount to purchases from Amazon.
  • Google Books was formerly Google Print and is a marvelous resource for searching for "content". Often allows citation searching and even free full-text viewing. Better that A9 for older books. See GoogleBooks.
