Contains mostly short articles with some bibliographies. The last volume is a detailed index and should be consulted for your research.

 

  • The Encyclopaedia Britannica. 11th ed. New York : Cambridge University Press, 1910-1911. Reference AE5 .E53 1910 29 vols.  The 11th ed. of the Encyclopaedia Britannica is a great resource due to its large collection of more specific articles. It has a good index.

 

  • The New Encyclopædia Britannica. 16th ed. Chicago : Encyclopædia Britannica, 2002. Reference AE5 .E363 2002 32 vols. Generally considered the leading English-language encyclopedia has been restructured into three parts. Propaedia gives an overview of all knowledge (vol. 1). Micropaedia provides brief entries and bibliographies (10 vols.). Macropaedia supplies indepth entries and larger bibliographies. Always use the Micropaedia before consulting the Macropaedia. The researcher should also consult the Index in order to find information that might not be a specific entry heading.

Reference BM487.A3 G37.  This book presents only the sectarian texts found at Qumran. Also, each entry makes use of extensive bibliographic data.
